TIGER COUNTRY

BY NINA RAIN

Tiger Country is a play that delves into the lives of various medics at different stages of their careers, showcasing the everyday struggles faced by NHS employees and their unwavering dedication to patient care. We aimed for the audience to momentarily experience the challenges experienced by frontline staff, and my design sought to transport the whole auditorium into this world, even just for a few hours.

Nico (Rao Pimparé, director) and I shared a vision of portraying the hospital world authentically but subsequently transitioning into surrealism as the play unfolds, representing lack of sleep and overwork. The use of genuine NHS materials such as the curtain creates a visual representation that will resonate with many of us, juxtaposed with surreal heights for the upstage theatre curtain.
